Reading Instruction

Instruction is based on the Orton-Gillingham Approach and is supported by current scientific research.  Our approach is first diagnostic then prescriptive.  An informal assessment helps establish a baseline for instuction given by assessments like the WADE or GE.  Once this baseline is established, instruction is provided in a one-to-one teacher/student model.  An instructor may use a variety of reading curriculums as resources however; the instructors are trained classically, with a strong phonetic approach allowing them to write and create much of their own materials.  Each instructor develops an individualized Reading, Spelling and Writing lesson plan to fit the needs of the student they are teaching.  An emphasis is placed on classically written literature.  Reading instruction follows the recommendations of the National Reading Panel, Connecticut's Blueprint for Reading Achievement and Put Reading First Legistlation.

Reading instruction is offered by our Reading Specialists, Associate and Certified Level Orton-Gillingham trained Instructors.
